Great Danes
Great Danes are known for their gentle personalities, and are commonly referred to as 'gentle giants'. Considered the tallest dog breed (along with the Irish Wolfhound), the Great Dane was named as the state dog of Pennsylvania in 1965.
Great Danes have a fairly slow metabolism, resulting in less engergy and food consumption than in smaller breeds. Many pure white Great Danes are deaf, due to a genetic disorder.
Famously, Scooby-Doo was based on a Great Dane, with popular newspaper comic character Marmaduke also belonging to the breed.
